Impacts of the current drought in East Africa continue to ravage people throughout the region. Through our staff and church partners, food relief is being distributed to thousands, but the need will continue.
Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia are facing a large-scale, climate-induced, and protracted humanitarian crisis with over 14 million people food insecure and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Women and children have been hit hardest by the simmering drought. Most men have relocated to neighboring counties with their animals in search of pasture. Getting a meal per day for most families is a miracle. There are highly unacceptable levels of malnutrition.
In response to the hunger and drought situation, Healing hands International distributed a truck load of maize flour, beans, cooking oil and salt to the families in Kajiado including the Osiligi Oishu Primary school / Children Centre. This was like “a drop in the ocean”. We are therefore appealing for donations to assist people by scaling up their emergency and humanitarian assistance and recovery activities and training to tackle the causes of food insecurity.
Janet Oloomu, one of the beneficiaries said, “Things has been bad in our community but today is a good day, we have food”.
