On August 14, 2021, the southern peninsula of Haiti was rocked by a 7.2 earthquake, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries. The ongoing political situation in Haiti has made transporting relief inside the country extremely dangerous. HHI employees have constructed fifty emergency shelters, which have now turned into permanent housing due to their quality construction. As the transportation situation is still dangerous, we have changed our recovery strategy to sending funds directly to victims, who have been able to make house repairs, start small businesses, and pay school fees.
As of now, we are nearing the completion of repairing nine heavily damaged church buildings. Each congregation created a repair committee to supervise the funds and church building repairs. “The committee wishes to thank you on behalf of the church, we are all very happy. May God continue to bless you, in the name of Christ” — Jean Yves St Clair, local leader of the Church of Christ.
