Makhomera Community in Malawi Now Has Access to Clean Water: A Life-Changing Milestone

January 29, 2025

The Makhomera community in Malawi has recently achieved a major milestone—access to clean, safe water. Before a well was drilled in the area, the community faced a daily struggle. For many, fetching water was a time-consuming task that could take up to 120 minutes one way. This left individuals with little time for other essential activities like resting, working, or attending school.

Abigail Bamusi, a 26-year-old mother of two, shares how this new well has already started to change the lives of families in the community. “Our kids are helping us fetch water because it’s now nearby,” Abigail says. This shift means that children no longer have to spend hours each day carrying water from distant sources, allowing them to focus more on their studies and play.

The well has brought more than just water—it has brought peace of mind. Abigail expresses her deep gratitude, saying, “We have the peace of mind and happiness because of your indescribable gift of the well. May God bless you and strengthen your faith.” The transformation has not only improved daily life but also created a sense of hope and connection. Abigail continues, “We look forward to seeing you soon here on earth or in heaven,” reflecting the community’s desire to personally thank those who made this life-changing gift possible.

HHI’s Clean Water program provides water wells and filtration systems to communities in need, helping to ensure access to safe drinking water in regions where it is scarce. By drilling this well in Makhomera, HHI has alleviated a major burden for families, providing them with a vital resource that will improve their health, productivity, and quality of life.

This well is just one example of how a simple yet powerful solution—access to clean water—can dramatically change the trajectory of a community’s future. The Makhomera community now has more time for rest, more opportunities for growth, and a renewed sense of hope, thanks to the incredible generosity and support from those who helped make this possible.
