When Maize Becomes Manna

March 19, 2025

Many times the most important things are the things we most take for granted. The same can be said for food. When a severe drought affected the Bikita district in Zimbabwe, food became a scarce resource. The little animals and resources the people had, they sold in order to provide for their families.

Healing Hands International saw this desperate need by the people of the Bikita district, and provided maize meal to many villages within the district. The day of food distribution was called a bright light day in the community. This bright light day was a joyous occasion for many as 60 bags of maize were distributed among the people. Many who received the gift of food promised to go home and share this precious gift with their neighbors and friends who were not able to receive it.

This area is unfortunately prone to many droughts and food shortages. Despite this the people here rarely receive any help from the government. Naki, a grandmother who provides for her four grandchildren, had immense thanks to say to HHI and the people who passed out the gift of food. She said, “I have hope and peace for my family.”
